Admissions Process and Checklist

Below you will find the process and steps required to apply. Please scroll down to the appropriate age range.

Kindergarten – 1st Grade:

Please call or email Annette Powers at 718-858-8663 or apowers@hannahsenesh.org to learn more about the school and schedule a tour.

1. Personal Tour and Conversation with the Director of Admissions:

This is a 60-90 minute tour and conversation that takes place during the school day and is typically scheduled at either 9:15am or 1:30pm.

During this visit, families have the opportunity to observe teachers and students in action in a variety of grades as well as tour the facilities. A strong effort is made to provide families with exposure to the grade they are applying to.

At the end of this intimate tour there is a conversation with the Director of Admissions. This conversation provides us with the opportunity to learn more about your family, and for your family to have time to ask questions about Hannah Senesh and share observations made during the tour.

2. Complete an Application

Hannah Senesh Community Day School uses Ravenna, a web-based application system. Through Ravenna’s portal you will be able to: Register to attend Admissions Events, apply online, email the Teacher Evaluation Form to your child’s teacher, and check the status of you application. If you encounter technical issues, please contact Ravenna directly at help@ravennasolutions.com. If you have any questions about Hannah Senesh Community Day School or the Admissions Process contact, Annette Powers at 718-858-8663 or apowers@hannahsenesh.org.

Applications for the 2019-20 school year have closed, but we may accept additional applications depending on availability. Please contact Director of Admissions Annette Powers at apowers@hannahsenesh.org to inquire.

If you are continuing or starting an application to the 2018-2019 school year, you can do so by visiting our Ravenna admissions page where you can create a new Ravenna admissions account, or log in with your existing Ravenna admissions account. Once you create an account or log in to your existing Ravenna account, search the School Directory for “Hannah Senesh Community Day School” and click the green APPLY button. When you get to the Hannah Senesh page on Ravenna, change the year in the “Applying for the fall of” dropdown menu at the top of the page and select 2018. Apply here

3. Child Visit

Once an application is received and processed, you will be able to select a date and time for your child visit through Ravenna. Visits will be scheduled on either a Sunday or Monday in December or January. During the visit, we will observe your child engaging in a variety of activities with other children. These activities may include open ended play, a read aloud, snack, and a drawing.

4. Teacher Evaluation Form

Your child’s teacher will be able to access and submit the Teacher Evaluation Form through Ravenna. Once in your Ravenna account, please delegate a teacher to receive the Teacher Evaluation Form. We ask that teachers start to work on the form in December, a few months into the school year and after your child’s teacher has had time to get to know your child.

5. School Transcripts

Inform your child’s current school that you are applying to Hannah Senesh and need the transcript emailed to Annette Powers at apowers@hannahsenesh.org or mail it to:

2nd – 8th Grade:

3. Education Evaluation Test

For grades 2nd through 4th:

We offer a few options for the Education Evaluation:

a. The ECAA (Education Records Bureau):
Register for the test here or call for an appointment at 212-672-9800.

b. Education Evaluation with Dr. Wendy Tunick:

*We have arranged special testing rates for Hannah Senesh applicants only.

c. Elementary Level SSAT:
Register for the test here or call for an appointment at 609-683-4440.
*This option is only available for 3rd and 4th grade

For grades 5th through 8th:

All Middle School (grades 5th through 8th) applicants are required to also take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam). Register for the test here or call for an appointment at 212-672-9800.

4. Child Visit

Once an application is received and processed, a child visit will be scheduled during a school day. During this time, your child will spend either a half or full day engaging in student activities with other students in their current grade level. They will also meet with administrators, engage directly in educational activities, and have the opportunity to learn more about the school.

5. Teacher Evaluation Form

Your child’s teacher will be able to access and submit the Teacher Evaluation Form through Ravenna. Once in your Ravenna account, please delegate a teacher to receive the Teacher Evaluation Form.

6. School Transcripts
