Hebrew Language Teaching Positions for Fall 2019

The Hannah Senesh Community Day School is hiring lower school and middle school Hebrew teachers to begin in September 2019. Applicants should be committed to working in a collaborative professional environment and in a child centered classroom setting. Responsibilities include implementing a Hebrew curriculum using the proficiency approach to language acquisition, differentiating instruction according to individual students’ needs, collaborating with the grade level team including a Hebrew associate teacher, and communicating with parents. Lower School Counselor

Hannah Senesh Community Day School is hiring a full time Lower School Counselor to support and guide our students with their social and emotional development and to be successful in the classroom learning community. The counselor is a part of a collaborative student support team with a high level of communication and collegiality.  The position includes observing students within the classroom setting and providing support to faculty, facilitating small group and individual student meetings, communicating with parents and outside support providers, participation in the admissions process; and acting as liaison between the school and outside professional support related to social and emotional support.

Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field is required.

Work with teachers

  • Serve as a resource to faculty on student social, emotional and behavioral concerns
  • Model and implement effective strategies for classroom and behavioral management to support teachers in their handling of challenging student and classroom situations
  • Address students behavior in the classroom by observing students, coaching teachers on effective strategies, developing behavioral plans, and supporting teacher implementation
  • Monitor effectiveness of individual
  • Guide teachers in implementation of classroom lessons focused on health and wellness, building social skills and self-esteem
  • Attend weekly grade level meetings about class as a whole and individual students

Work with students

  • Observe whole class and individual students
  • Support students through short-term individual counseling and guidance to address specific social, emotional, or behavioral needs of students and, if necessary, make recommendations for ongoing outside support services.
  • Maintain documentation of observations, work with students, and communication with parents in a shareable format
  • Meet with students if there is a crisis or immediate situation
  • Lead groups for children who are living in divorced, separated, and single-parent homes
  • Participate in the admissions process through individual assessments

Work with parents

  • Coordinate and facilitate parent education programming.
  • Communicate and meet with parents on a limited basis regarding student behavior and wellbeing and provide guidance to find outside support when students need more ongoing counseling.

Assistant Director of the Middle School

Hannah Senesh Community Day School, a progressive, independent K-8 Jewish school in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is hiring an Assistant Director of the Middle School to begin August  2019. The Assistant Director of the Middle School is part of the Educational Leadership Team and reports to the Director of the Middle School to lead the ongoing work in curriculum development, student learning, teacher support and supervision, and the high school exmissions process. Responsibilities include:

Lead the high school exmissions process:

  • Build relationships with independent and public high schools and with middle school students and families
  • Support families to understand different high school options, and to track the timeline and application process through workshops, info sessions, and individual meetings
  • Meet regularly with individual families and students to navigate school choice, applications, essays, tours, recommendations, financial aid, and other information
  • Coordinate test prep and test administration throughout middle school
  • Oversee the faculty writing of recommendations
  • Manage student records and transcripts for high school admissions; including middle school portfolios, review of 7th grade progress reports, and attendance
  • Document and analyze statistical data on high school placement

Supervise, support and evaluate middle school faculty, including:

  • Conducting evaluation of classroom teachers through regular observations, weekly meetings, and feedback related to teacher instruction and student learning.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of curriculum
  • Making recommendations to the Middle School Director regarding hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Serve on the 8th grade advisory team
  • 1 on 1 or small group work with students as needed
  • Manage graduation preparation and ceremony
  • Coordinate middle school athletics
  • Coordinate 7th grade overnight trip to Washington, DC
  • Responsible for MS Subs: hiring, creating sublist, managing for sick days
  • Perform various reasonable tasks as requested by the Director of The Middle School

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education or related field required
  • Prior New York City high school placement experience is a plus

The Hannah Senesh Community Day School is hiring an experienced educator to teach kindergarten Hebrew and Judaics starting in September 2019. Responsibilities include implementing a Hebrew curriculum using an immersion approach to language acquisition, integrating Hebrew into the Judaics curriculum, differentiating according to individual students’ needs, collaborating with the kindergarten team including a Hebrew associate, and communicating with parents. Middle School Hebrew Teacher

Coding Teacher K-8

Hannah Senesh Community Day School, a progressive, independent K-8 Jewish school in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn, is hiring an experienced Coding teacher to join our 2019-20 faculty. The teacher will design and teach the curriculum to kindergarten through Eighth Grade students. The coding teacher will work with students during weekly classes on programming concepts, coding language, robotics, and will complete several relevant projects. In addition, students will be instructed on how computers work, including the basic science and mathematics behind their operation.
